Working together, learning together

Welcome

Year 1 and 2 turn yellow!

We have had another wonderful week in Year 1/2. In Maths we have been learning all about part-whole models and how to solve problems in different ways using the equipment in our maths packs to help us. We have also been working very hard on our number bonds and in year 2 we have been using our number bonds to 10 to work our number bonds to 100! In English we have begun looking at catalogues. We discussed the key features of a catalogue entry and shared our own experiences with catalogues. In Topic we loved considering how London had change since the Great Fire and made models of the wider more spacious streets and a replacement cathedral filled with fire fighters.

Today has been a very special Friday across school as we were all able to come in dressed in yellow. We dressed in yellow to celebrate Mental Health Day! This year has been extremely different and at times challenging for us all and we have spent time every week sharing our experiences and thoughts around the ‘new normal’ we are living in . Today during our well-being time we read a lovely story called ‘The Colour Monster’ and discussed all of the different feelings mentioned and how we could manage those different emotions. We all agreed that talking about our feelings made us feel so much better. This afternoon we discussed what made us feel happy and yellow before working with Ms Telford to paint a picture of ourselves feeling this emotion. These pictures will be displayed in our Key Stage 1 cloakroom.

Year 1 Phonics of the week – /ve/ as in glove and /wh/ as in wheel
Year 2 Phonics of the week – /ew/ as in chew and /oo/ as in spoon, /ou/ as in mouth and /ow/ as in owl

A special mention and well done to two of our children in class this week who made it onto our school WOW wall after sharing some fantastic extra work they had been doing at home!

Well done for another fantastic week Year 1 and 2. Have a lovely weekend.

Stay safe,

Miss Lawson
