Year 4 have visited the Roman Fort, Arbeia, to find out what life was like for Roman soldiers. They had a tour of the fort including the soldier’s barracks, the Commanding Officer’s house and the West Gate. They found out that legionaries had to live in tiny rooms in groups of 8-10, sharing beds and going to the toilet in the same room! Year 4 decided they would prefer to be Commanding Officers as they lived in huge houses with 23 rooms! Year 4 also took part in an archaeological dig where they dug up Roman artifacts and used them to find out more about Roman life.
