Happy VE day Year 1!

English – Today I would like you to read (and possibly follow) a set of instructions to make a recipe from WW2. They didn’t have as much food due to rationing. Find out what this word means.

Maths – We are going to continue looking at telling the time to the half hour. Try to answer this reasoning problem. You can practise this skill throughout the day by looking at what time you do things.

PSHE – Today is VE day. It would be lovely for you to celebrate it with a little picnic, maybe jam sandwiches and cakes, with your Union Jack flags or bunting. There will be a 2 minute silence at 11:00am which it would be wonderful if you could take part in to remember and pay respect to everyone that fought in WW2 but also soldiers still fighting today. At 3:00pm there will be ‘Nation’s toast to the hero’s of WW2’ where you can raise a glass and say the following toast: “To those who gave so much, we thank you”. I would love to see how you celebrate VE day with your family so why not put your photos on our Facebook page, send them to the school email or send them on 2Email.

Phonics – Today we have two new pieces of code for /ai/. /ae/ as in sundae and /ea/ as in break. You can practise these codes on www.oxfordowl.co.uk Level 5 Book 25.

Have a wonderful weekend Year 1. I miss you all lots!
